A Name:
Things NOT to be in the name 'Bad ideas':
- Nottingham
- City
- Studio group
- Love related
- Local
- Picturesque
- Diverse
- Cosmic
- Wazzo
- Hub
Things we WANT it to be:
- Catchy and easy to spell
- To have a double meaning
- To suggest what we're about as a studio group
- 1 or 2 words at the most
- To not take itself too seriously
Serious Suggestions:
- Residents/Residence
- Constellation
- Sponge (although it is apparently a ska band, so perhaps not!)
- Absorbent
- Collectives
- Projects
- Keystone (a term to describe angling a projected image to compensate for any difference between the projector and the screen)
- Antler
- The tap of eternal Guinness
- Construction
- Drawn
- Umbrella (please listen to the song 'Umbrella' before accepting this one.
http://www.myspace.com/rihanna')
- Serious suggestion
I think we can all agree that we're getting somewhere but we're not there
yet. This year the word 'Numpty' was voted the Scottish publics favorite
word. In 2000 the UK's top 10 favorite words (according to the BBC) were:
1. Serendipity
2. Quidditch
3. Love
4. Peace/why
5. Onomatopoeia
6. Hope
7. Faith
8. Football/muggle/ hello/family
9 Compassion/home
10. Jesus/money

hello
i am reminded of when my friends who were boys (it was always the boys) would decide to form a rock band, and spend days deciding on their name before splitting up over artistic differences.
and so i would like to say - right now- if we have a name with absorbent in the title, in any form, i fear people may think our studio group has something to do with nappies.
in other news; i have grown particularly fond of Levy Levee over the days- and do not think we need a name that is obvious and blatant, or any of these things. i think the problem is- either the name says clearly what we do and who we are- in which case, we just need something simple and direct and to the point. no fannying about with double meanings etc.
or we find a name that seems right- and fits who we are and what we do, and one day will be synonymous with art and nottingham and all the rest of it.
and above all: we are going to need a name that we would not be ashamed to have on a t-shirt. (see the aforementioned comment about absorbent). not necessarily because it is going to be on a t-shirt, but because you wouldn't name your dog something you would be embarrassed to shout in the park- and you would not name your studio group something you would be ashamed to tell people you were part of.
or something that sounds like a graphic design firm.
or a maker of luggage (antler)
i know this isn't very construcive in the name finding- but as i couldn't make the last meeting- i just wanted to get my two pence in.
i do like the word sundry also. it is a nice all encompassing word- i also like sundays
sundry sunday
prehaps it could be the name of my chill out dj sessions- assuming no one likes it enough for it to be the studio name? i didn't think so.
