Kates email about Nicks suggestion

talking to nick today about studio name- and he is going to forward everyone an article about nottingham dialect etc.

basically he was saying that "Glegg" is a nottingham word for look.

i really like it- though it might not be to everyones taste- however i do think that it would be a great idea to have a name that ties it to nottingham. (in a similar vein- there is the american film company set up by two english actresses called Bristol Cities - cockney ryhming slang, but if you do not know that it sounds like a professional name)

any way-
here is the link to an article- possibly the one nick found...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/nottingham/content/articles/2005/01/04/features_about_nottinghamshire_nottinghamese_by_john_beeton_feature.shtml

a few more nottingham phrases:

Oo-woshi-wi, woshi wiyim or woshi wier sen? Who accompanied the lady in question? Was she with her marital partner or was she alone?

Shin tin! The lady of the house is not at home!

Gie ovver blartin! Please stop crying!

Thart gooin rahnd Wahsup to get ter Mansfild! The route which you are proposing is somewhat circuitous!

Put wood in thole! Please close the door! (please note that "the" is aspirate and implied and should not be abbreviated to the Yorkshire style of "t'". The extended version of the last example above is put (the) wood in (the) hole)

Joe cum frum Bozer? Are you a resident of the constituency of Mr. Dennis Skinner?

Nerw, am frum 'Eath! No, My member of parliament is Mr. Harry Barnes!

Joe cum frum Wahsup? It seems that you are in the habit of leaving doors open.

Giz a chew a yer sprigger. I would appreciate a piece of your spearmint chewing gum.

not serious suggestions for studio names- but something to ponder prehaps

i feel nick would have sold this whole idea much better- but i hope it is of interest at least.

smell you later- and if the meeting is on monday-- could we have it later on- about 6ish? if not, i'll work around it.

till then

I hope Kate doesn't mind me posting her email. But I have done it anyway. I actually really like the sound of Glegg. It sound's good, and although it has a relevant meaning it is fairly obscure and most people will just see it as a name, they wont bring any preconceptions to it. It will allow us to make it truly our own thing and shape into what we want it to be. I also really like that it links us to Notts, this city is going to give us our start in art and it will inevitably be an integral part of whatever we do so it seems right to link ourselves to it with the name. I will have a look through the article and see what else is in there. what does everyone think? good work Nick!
